Hyoscine Butylbromide is specifically indicated for the treatment of bladder or intestinal spasms. It has been used in the treatment of irritable bowel syndromes and other gastro-intestinal conditions, as well as the immediate treatment of gastro-intestinal distress and secondary to numerous other medications in the treatment of cancer.

Hyoscine Butylbromide-An anti-spasmodic medication often used in the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome. It acts to block the action of acetylcholine at parasympathetic sites in smooth muscle and in secretory glands, stopping spasms in these areas.
What it Does:
Abdominal pain is one of the primary reasons people seek medical attention in a year, many of which are caused by spasms of intra-abdominal organs. Hyoscine Butylbromide acts to stop the spasms in these areas, decreasing pain and discomfort and promoting proper organ function.
It's been used in the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome, bladder spasms, colicky abdominal pain, dysmenorrheal and in association with other medications in the treatment of late stage cancer patients. It is also used to assist in a colonoscopy and sigmoidoscopy and may help manage renal colic.
Side Effects:
Common side effects of taking Hyoscine Butylbromide include constipation, dry mouth, trouble urinating and nausea. In more severe reactions patients have noticed swelling of the hands or feet, increased pulse, dizziness, diarrhea, vision problems and eye pain. Patients should let their physician know as soon as possible if these symptoms become bothersome or last longer than two to three days.
Allergic reactions to Hyoscine Butylbromide are rare but have been noted. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include itching, hives, nausea and vomiting and difficulty breathing. These symptoms may require emergency treatment and should be brought to the attention of a physician as soon as possible.
Hyoscine Butylbromide is not recommended for use in pregnancy unless absolutely necessary, and it's not yet known whether it is excreted into breast milk. Elderly patients and patients with glaucoma or other eye problems, heart disease, enlarged prostate, allergies and stomach or intestinal diseases should be monitored carefully during use.
